Downton Abbey Beats The Inbetweeners As The Best TV Show Of The Decade

Downton Abbey has been voted the best show on British television in the last ten years, beating The Inbetweeners, The X Factor and Sherlock.

Doctor Who didn't make the list, but David Tennant, who shot to fame playing the stylish Doctor, was voted the favourite new TV talent.

The Inbetweeners, which made a successful transition to the big screen, came second with Sherlock behind.

Other shows making the top ten were The Apprentice, The X Factor, Come Dine With Me, Gavin and Stacy, Planet Earth and strangely, Dancing on Ice.

No appearances by The Thick Of It, Shameless, Peep Show, Little Britain or Skins.

The poll, conducted by Freeview, also charted the biggest developments in TV since 2002 and deemed virtual life savers BBC iPlayer and 4oD as making a huge impact.

No American shows were included, but if they had, we bet the list would have looked very different.
